On January 12th happened the 4th National Osprey census. This census aims at knowing better the wintering population in Portugal. This year, between 175 and 196 ospreys were counted in Portugal. In the Algarve, the total was 28-34, most of them being in the Ria Formosa Natural Park. This year, A Rocha Life staff was not able to help and at Ria de Alvor, no ospreys were counted. They may have been fishing elsewhere when the census was done since a couple of birds use the area to feed and roost. One of these birds is carrying a German darvic ring.
