On May 15th, an adult male Common Eider was spotted at Ria de Alvor by one of A Rocha Life guides. Unfortunately this bird did not stay long as it was disturbed by a kite surfer, flew away and never shower-up again.

This is the 15th record of the species for Portugal (7 submitted and accepted by the Portuguese Rarities Committee), the 6th for the Algarve and the 3rd for Ria de Alvor. The species was spotted there for the first time in 1993-94 (an overwintering bird) and then in 1998.
