The Alentejo is a great place to visit in spring. The fields are full of flowers and Rollers, Bee-eaters, Lesser Kestrels, Black-eared Wheatears… are back from their wintering ground. The place is however interesting too in winter. Little Bustards flock and may be easier to see. It is also an important wintering place for Cranes and it is possible to see and hear hundreds of them. Some birds of prey display at that time and it is a great opportunity to have good views of eagles. Finally you may be lucky enough to see an Otter fishing in one of the many ponds of the area.
