A couple of weeks ago finished the first Laid-back Birdwatching Week of the year. The weather did not help as we had to cancel and shorten some tours but we still managed to see more than 100 species.

We saw our first Ring Ouzel of the week and many Choughs at Sagres. The trip to Monchique started with a very close view of Rock Buntings and more Ring Ouzels, a bit hard to find, but we managed! On Wednesday, we went to the Ria de Alvor marsh. There, we saw a big diversity of waders, but also Flamingos and Spoonbills. On Thursday, the trip to Lagoa dos Salgados was successful with Glossy Ibis, many Ducks and a couple of Purple Swamphens. The rain started on Friday and we managed to escape for a couple of hours to go to Alvor dunes. There, we had great views of Zitting Cisticola, Bluethroat and Sandwich Tern. Saturday was more relax with a visit at Silves. We finished the week with a couple hours birdwatching by Faro airport. We had great views of Booted Eagle, Purple Swamphens, Flamingos and many Ducks.
