During a day tour in the Ria Formosa Natural Park in October, we got the chance of finding a flock of about 50 Spoonbills. A few birds were carrying colour-rings in this group and after reading the combinations and sending the information to the ringer, we discovered one of these birds had been ringed as a juvenile bird in its first year in 1997, so this birds was 20 years old! The last sighting was in Germany in July. This bird has visited 6 countries: The Netherlands (where it was ringed), Portugal, Mauritania, France, Spain and Germany.

Another Spoonbill, also ringed in the Netherlands, but in 2006 has been visiting the Ria de Alvor area every winter since 2008.
